Sunday Worship: July 19, 2026 | "When the Word Takes Root”
Nehemiah 8 shows us a people who have returned from exile and rebuilt the wall, but still need God to rebuild them. We are reminded that visible restoration is not the same thing as being whole, and that God gathers His people around the Word to help us remember who He is and who we are called to be. As the Book of the Law is read and clearly explained, the people understand, and the Word reaches their hearts. Their tears are not dismissed, but they are also not left in despair, because the joy of the LORD becomes their strength. This joy is not shallow happiness or pretending everything is fine; it is the strength of knowing that the God who tells the truth about us is also the God who restores us. As that joy takes root, it moves outward in mercy as the people feast and share with those who have nothing prepared. We are invited to become people shaped by the Word: truthful, restored, joyful, and ready to make room at the table for others.
