Sunday Worship: August 23, 2026 | "Give Me Your Eyes: Seeing the Person Within the Crowd"

Aaron Atchley

In Matthew 9:35–38, Jesus looks beyond the crowd and responds with compassion to people worn down by life. During Fair Week, thousands will come to our doorstep, inviting us to see more than cars, tasks, and interruptions—to see the people within the crowd. The good news is that Jesus also sees us in our weariness and responds with compassion. As we receive his love, the Holy Spirit helps us remember that every person carries a story and may be facing needs we cannot see. Christlike compassion moves us toward others through ordinary acts of patience, welcome, kindness, and care. Jesus calls us to pray to the Lord of the harvest, reminding us that this work belongs to God and everything does not depend upon us. We make ourselves available, trusting God to use our simplest acts of love to help others see Jesus in us.
