Sunday Worship: August 16, 2026 | "Beyond the Glory Days: Seeking God Instead of Recreating the Past
We all carry memories of seasons when life, faith, or even the church seemed especially full, and those memories are gifts worth cherishing. But Scripture reminds us that faithfulness is not found by trying to recreate the “glory days”; it is found by seeking God in the place and time where we are now. In 2 Chronicles 7, God calls his people to humble themselves, pray, seek his face, and turn toward him—a posture of dependence, openness, and renewed faithfulness. Even when God’s people wandered and the world they had known fell apart, God did not abandon them or forget his promises. In Jesus, the promised Son of David and Immanuel, we discover that our hope rests not in recovering what once was but in the faithful King who has come near to us. As we remember God’s faithfulness in the past, we are invited to let that remembering shape the way we worship, pray, repent, and follow today. We can move into the future with humility and hope, trusting that God’s best work does not have to be behind us.
