Easter Sunday: "Why Look for the Living Among the Dead?"

Apr 5, 2026    Aaron Atchley

In Luke 24 we find ourselves with the women who came at the break of dawn to Jesus’ tomb. As the account unfolds, we recognize our own responses in theirs, in the disciples, and in Peter—expecting endings, struggling to receive the good news, or unsure what to do with it. A central theme is the tension between hearing God’s promise and trusting it, especially when the good news feels too good to be true. The turning point comes with the call to “remember,” not simply recalling the story but allowing its truth to take hold in us. At the heart of it all is the proclamation that God has kept His promise in Christ, even when our faith feels incomplete or uncertain. All of this draws us to the table, where remembering becomes tangible and we trust that the risen Christ meets us in Word and sacrament.
